Burger King had this brilliant idea to unite The Whopper and The Big Mac for an epic yet meaningful fight for World Peace. I loved the idea and so did Burger King. They were completely public about their thoughts and ideas and even created a website describing each and every detail of the campaign. mcwhopper.com From the uniforms to the location to the burger itself, Burger King had it all worked out. All of the proceeds would go to non-profit organization Peace One Day. It was a completely beautiful idea! A pop-up shop would be opened in Atlanta-- the mid -way point between the McDonald's headquarters in Chicago and Burger King's headquarters in Miami, and on September 21, 2015 on World Peace Day, people would come together and munch on the delicious hybrid burger referred to as the McWhopper. Unfortunately, McDonald's said no. They said they felt their brands could do something better to make a difference. What. Check out this article. Coke and Pepsi... Adidas and Nike... MCDonald's and Burger King!! These "brand wars" are some of the most famous in the world! This McWhopper would have been a game changer. What a positive example these companies would have sent to the world. That for one day, two competing brands can unite and promote peace worldwide. Even though the event would have been small scale (only taking place in Atlanta), it would have rocked the world. It could have been so epic, McDonald's. I would have definitely accepted the offer and broadcasted it all over social media. I probably would have created an Instagram account, just for the MCWhopper. The message would have been clear-- if two brands that are eternal competitors can peacefully come together and make something marvelous, that can be true for anyone. Peace is possible! Little acts can accumulate and send messages throughout the nation and eventually the world. What a shame McDonald's. Maybe Peace Day 2k16?

No one quite knows how to feel about Public Relations. Many don't even know how to define it. It's such a broad, inclusive subject that serves a lot of purposes. There are a lot of negative connotations associated with it, such as propaganda and manipulation. However, companies/ celebrities/ brands etc. benefit greatly from a Public Relations team. If I were to sum up Public Relations in one sentence, it would be: how Justin Bieber escaped deportation back to Canada. I'm kidding, of course. Public Relations is all about establishing a mutually beneficial relationship between the public and a company. A Public Relations team would want to make their particular company look good, especially during a crisis, while also making their clients feel good. If the public feels good about a particular company, they will likely have increased sales and a growing group of loyal clientele or fans. Another huge part of Public Relations is crisis management. I was kidding when I mentioned Justin Bieber (kinda), but he serves as an excellent example (and also the first one that came to mind). Justin has broken the hearts of many tween girls all around the country by doing many, many, MANY inappropriate things. (If you are unfamiliar, here's a link: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1006987) Lately he's been trying to tape together our hearts (yes I wrote "our"-- myself included), and I think it's working. Not only has he been attending Hillsong conferences and posting bible verses to Instagram and Snapchat, but he's been showing America a softer, more genuine side of him. After all the terrible things he's done, whether it was all a PR stunt or not, he now has to mend his broken, battered image, so that America is on his side once again, and he can forever rid this place of the petitions to get his little Canadian self deported (and so he can sell more albums). Recently, at the VMA's, Justin performed and started crying afterwards. He was showing vulnerability and emotion, which was adorable, but also humble. No one really knew why he was crying, but later we found out it was due to his desire to impress his fans and his awe when he found out he still had devoted, loving, and supportive fans out there, even after all he's done. Check out this clip of Justin on The Tonight Show (0:40-1:50): |
