No one quite knows how to feel about Public Relations. Many don't even know how to define it. It's such a broad, inclusive subject that serves a lot of purposes. There are a lot of negative connotations associated with it, such as propaganda and manipulation. However, companies/ celebrities/ brands etc. benefit greatly from a Public Relations team. If I were to sum up Public Relations in one sentence, it would be: how Justin Bieber escaped deportation back to Canada. I'm kidding, of course. Public Relations is all about establishing a mutually beneficial relationship between the public and a company. A Public Relations team would want to make their particular company look good, especially during a crisis, while also making their clients feel good. If the public feels good about a particular company, they will likely have increased sales and a growing group of loyal clientele or fans. Another huge part of Public Relations is crisis management. I was kidding when I mentioned Justin Bieber (kinda), but he serves as an excellent example (and also the first one that came to mind). Justin has broken the hearts of many tween girls all around the country by doing many, many, MANY inappropriate things. (If you are unfamiliar, here's a link: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1006987) Lately he's been trying to tape together our hearts (yes I wrote "our"-- myself included), and I think it's working. Not only has he been attending Hillsong conferences and posting bible verses to Instagram and Snapchat, but he's been showing America a softer, more genuine side of him. After all the terrible things he's done, whether it was all a PR stunt or not, he now has to mend his broken, battered image, so that America is on his side once again, and he can forever rid this place of the petitions to get his little Canadian self deported (and so he can sell more albums). Recently, at the VMA's, Justin performed and started crying afterwards. He was showing vulnerability and emotion, which was adorable, but also humble. No one really knew why he was crying, but later we found out it was due to his desire to impress his fans and his awe when he found out he still had devoted, loving, and supportive fans out there, even after all he's done. Check out this clip of Justin on The Tonight Show (0:40-1:50):
